After an incredible two years it is hard to believe that as recently as May 2009 Norwich City fans were still coming to terms with the fact that their club had actually been relegated to the third tier of English football.

The future looked even darker when City slumped to a 7-1 defeat at home to Colchester United on the opening day of the 2009-10 season. However, within two weeks, Paul Lambert, the man responsible for master-minding that shock result, had left Colchester to manage the Norwich team he had so recently humiliated.

How he inspired most of the same players to finish that season as League One champions only he knows. To follow that with promotion to the Premier League, was, in Paul Lambert's own words: "a miracle!"

There was a time when his next managerial move looked as if it might be back to Celtic, where he was equally inspirational as a player. However, recent threats and a violent assault on Celtic's current manager, Neil Lennon, may make an extended stay in tranquil Norfolk a much more tempting proposition for our canny Canary manager...
