Bentley linked to Canaries return

Tricky midfielder David Bentley is being linked with a move to a number of clubs in the light of his reported decision to request a transfer away from North London.

The Arsenal man, who spent last season on loan with Norwich, has grown frustrated at the lack of opportunities under Arsene Wenger. Depsite the departures of Patrick Vieira and Jermaine Pennant, the ariival of Alexander Hleb looks to severely restrict the England Under-21 star's chances. Bentley featured in pre-season tournaments but failed to make the bench for the Community Shield match with Chelsea.

West Ham are being strongly linked with the 20-year-old as they bid to bolster their squad ahead of a first season back in the Premiership. Norwich, who were rumoured to be interested in bringing Bentley back over the summer, and Championship rivals Crystal Palace are both reported to be considering loan deals.

Bentley's season loan at Carrow Road began in spectacular style with a goal at St James' Park to help earn a draw in the second game of the season, but he was disciplined by Nigel Worthington over a training ground prank. He missed much of the middle of the season through injury, but was involved in the run-in as the Canaries hit form and narrowly missed out on avoiding relegation.

The right side of midfield has been filled by another promising North Londoner in Dean Marney, who has impressed in his first two appearances since arriving on loan from Spurs, but the chance to add Bentley to the squad for the long Championship season may not be one that Worthington wants to pass up, particularly given the departure of Damien Francis on the eve of the season.
