Halford, Jerome and McSheffrey targetted for play-off push

Norwich are being linked in today's Sun with bids for the three players whose names are on the lips of impatient fans eagerly waiting to appraise Nigel Worthington's use of his new-found wealth.

Armed with a hefty chunk of the £7.25million City will receive from ambitious West Ham for Dean Ashton, Worthington is set to step up his pursuit of two of the Championship's sharp shooters and an up-and-coming utility man from the division below.

Gary McSheffrey of Coventry, who scored against Norwich earlier this season, has been mentioned before and, although Sky Blues boss Micky Adams said he was going nowhere, the Canaries now have the clout to test them.

Similarly Cameron Jerome, who has emerged spectacularly fom obscurity in the last few months, has had a £3.5million tag slapped on his head by Cardiff owner Sam Hammam. Worthington may now be in a position to invest that sort of sum in the 19-year-old.

Colchester United's Greg Halford was mentioned yesterday by Worthington as a player he has enquired about, and a £1million bid may soon be falling out of the Layer Road fax machine.
