Jerome "will not go for less than £3.5 million" says Hammam

It seems like a lifetime ago that Wimbledon chairman Sam Hammam used to get press coverage for placing bets with his players over how many goals they would score in a season. If my memory serves me correctly, Dean Holdsworth got himself a camel out of it. Anyway, Sam's back.

Mr Hammam, now at the helm of Cardiff City, has spoken out about rumours surrounding the future of the Welsh club's teenage goalscoring sensation, Cameron Jerome, who has been linked with a number of clubs from European champions Liverpool down to Championship contenders Sheffield United and Norwich.

"It will take a top Premier League club to sign Cameron Jerome," said Hammam, "and they'll have to pay around £4million. Maybe £5million, but not less than £3.5million.

"He won't go to one of the lesser sides in the Premier League nor one of the ambitious clubs in The Championship because we won't allow it."

Norwich manager Nigel Worthington has spoken of his admiration for the Bluebirds' top scorer, and made initial inquiries about a transfer. His advances, however, are likely to have been rebuffed in the same way that Neil Warnock's £1.5million bid was, with Hammam claiming that the call, "lasted three seconds".
