No Green offer from Redknapp - yet

Whether or not Portsmouth are likely to make a move for Norwich City goalie Robert Green seems no clearer after their boss Harry Redknapp answered Sky Sports' questions on the matter.

With the current incumbent at Fratton Park, Jamie Ashdown, set to be fit for the weekend, the urgency for a new signing with Alexandre Gaydamark's millions, and hence interest in Green, has dimmed. From Redknapp's initial reaction, it was doubtful whether there ever was any interest.

“Robert Green belongs to Norwich City and I haven't spoken to Nigel Worthington about him," said Frank Lampard's uncle. “If I was interested then I would have contacted Nigel. Green is a good keeper but nothing is happening there.”

Having seemed to have slammed the door on a move that 24 hours earlier was being stirred up by Green's agent Andy Evans, Redknapp then left it blowing in the wind with his next statement.

"We'll have to see what next week brings."

Jose Mourinho he isn't, but Redknapp is clearly revelling in the power in the transfer market that Gaydamark's money has given him. His £7million capture of Spurs trio Noe Pamarot, Sean Davis and Pedro Mendes is likely to be the tip of the iceberg. Green, Chelsea pair Glen Johnson and Wayne Bridge, perhaps even Dean Ashton and doubtless a smattering of unknown foreigners could arrive before the end of the transfer window as Harry flashes the company chequebook around with gay abandon.
