Pompey linked with Green swoop

Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp apparently believes there is a deal to be done for England international goalkeeper Robert Green.

This morning's Daily Star links the newly-returned father-in-law of Louise from Eternal to the Norwich City Academy product after the south coast club failed with a bid for Middlesbrough's Mark Shwarzer.

'Boro want a reported £2.2million for the want-away Australian international, which Redknapp thinks too much for the 33-year-old.

Green is allegedly valued by City at £2.5million, but wheeler-dealer Redknapp reckons he can get them down due to Green's desire to cement his place in Sven Goran Eriksson's World Cup squad.

In the absence of a firm offer, the story can be treated as the same sort of conjecture taht linked Green to Charlton, Everton and Fulham in the past. On the plus side, Green is likely to be fit for Saturday's game at Plymouth.
