West Ham to step up Ashton interest according to reports

After weeks of claims and counter claims, reports are claiming once again that a major bid is being prepared for Norwich's record signing.

Wigan, Manchester City and Portsmouth have all been touted as possible destinations, but no bids that, in the words of Nigel Worthington, excite the club have been received.

According to TEAMtalk.com, West Ham boss Alan Pardew is stepping up his search for new faces and, as well as chasing Ajax defender Nigel de Jong, will offer the £7million that it is widely believed would be enough to prise Dean Ashton away from Carrow Road.

Pardew has been searching for a new striker and was rebuffed in a bid for Nantes hitman Habib Bamogo over the weekend, but City boss Nigel Worthington has repeatedly stated his resolve to keep his best players at the club as he attempts to mastermind an immediate return to the Premiership.
