Ameobi picture develops

Shola Ameobi's future away from Newcastle looks to finally be taking shape as Ipswich blinked first in the battle to sign the 26-year-old striker.

Ameobi's agent, Steven Denos, had already alerted the Norwich faithful, scrabbling around for any titbit of transfer gossip, by ruling out a move to the MLS for his charge while also stressing that a move to Norwich was a viable option.

Now the ball is in the court of Kevin Keegan , Dennis Wise and co. Denos pointed out that a 'hefty' transfer fee would be required.

Glenn Roeder balked at the amount he was told Stoke City had agreed to pay for the player, with Tony Pulis eventually pulling out of the deal after an uninspiring loan spell at the Britannia, and it remains to be seen whether new Ipswich owner Marcus Evans will have to dig deeper than the original offer to secure Jim Magilton's first public target.
