Non-League striker Cody McDonald will bid to become the new Ian Wright or Efan Ekoku when he graduates to the professional game with Norwich.

McDonald, 22, is reported by Sky Sports to be undergoing a medical ahead of joining the Canaries from Dartford. He has been on trial at Carrow Road and had also interested Peterbrough, who brought George Boyd from non-league, Fulham, who recently sold former Gravesend man Jimmy Bullard for £5million, and Sheffield United.

McDonald, who is the second striker Bryan Gunn has signed today, joins Chris Killen in the newly-strengthened attack, the Celtic man having joined on loan for the season. McDonald is the latest in a long line of players to have been given the chance to step up from part-time football, with successes in recent years including Freddy Eastwood, Michael Kightly and DJ Campbell.
