Are City behind Naismith bid?

Peter Grant's patriotic fetish for Scottish players could be behind a bid for Kilmarnock's Steven Naismith.

Killy chairman Michael Johnston would not name which Championship side had tabled a bid for the 20-year-old striker, who bagged 15 goals in the Scottish Premierleague last term. Norwich are, however, in the market for a striker and have been mentioned with any available player north of the border.

Johnston said the bid was around £1.4million including add-ons and, although he is aware that players he rates as similar have moved for more money, an increased bid could be more warmly received.

Even if the Canaries weren't behind the bid, the possible sale of Robert Earnshaw might see Grant looking for several new options in attack, as well as having a decent amount of cash at his disposal.
