Canaries linked with rival defender

Latvian Lancastrian Kaspar Gorkss is the latest name to be revealed as a potential summer transfer target for Norwich City in their mass recruitment drive.

As Canaries boss Glenn Roeder attempts to make his indelible mark on a squad he inherited mid-season and bolstered with loans, a number of targets from Championship rivals have been mooted.

The latest, Kaspars Gorkss, is a Latvain international signed in January last year from Ventspils. The 27-year-old had an eventful first season in England, scoring eight goals from defence and getting two red cards as the Bloomfield Road side largely steered clear of the relegation frame.

Gorkss has been strongly linked with neighbours Preston and Burnley, but Norwich, Crystal Palace, Watford and Rangers are also said to be in the hunt.

The player did little to dispel the rumours, telling the Blackpool Gazette, "There have been a lot of rumours and nothing has happened. From rumours to really going somewhere is a long way. From my point of view it's just a case of carrying on and seeing what happens, that's all I can really do."
