Christmas excesses caught up with us, says Worthy

Nigel Worthington was optimistic in defeat as City crashed to their biggest home reverse in over a year to bring 2006 to an inauspicious start.

The Canaries boss told reporters that he was happy with the return of nine points from a crowded Christmas programme, and not too down-hearted with being beaten by one of the Championship's form sides.

"This was one of those occasions when it just wasn't our day, and playing four games in the space of eight days caught up with us," said Worthington. "We were playing against a very good side and we were below par. At the end of the day they punished us."

"We've just got to get this game out of our systems and move on."

City's next game is in the FA Cup Third Round, where they entertain Premiership West Ham United at Carrow Road.
