Fight on for Norris

Norwich boss Glenn Roeder could be about to splash a hefty ransom on diminutive Plymouth Argyle midfielder David Norris.

Norris, 26, is being courted by half the Championship, with Ipswich and Leicester said to have had bids around the £1.2million mark turned down already.

That the Canaries have only now been mentioned suggests that Roeder may have more money than many fans expected, and that he is ready to seriously compete for the signature of the 5'7" Peterborough-born former Bolton player.

The move is complicated by the reported 50% sell-on fee written into the deal that took Norris to Home Park from the Reebok in December 2002. Bolton stand to make a killing on a player who never represented them in the league and who they sold for a mere £25,000.

Paul Sturrock, who recently returned to Devon after spells at Southampton, Sheffield Wednesday and Swindown, is understandably keen to make sure his club don't lose out financially, however, which may effectively mean that Norris will cost twice his real value.
