Five released as summer upheaval begins

Norwich boss Peter Grant has named five players set to leave the club in order to free up budget for potential summer recruitment.

Paul McVeigh, who joined from Tottenham Hotspur 7 years ago, is the most notable departure, along with Academy product Ian Henderson, although both players have spent the end of this season on loan elsewhere.

Northern Ireland international McVeigh may well be wanted by Burnley, where he has spent the latter part of this season on loan, and will be missed by Canaries fans who have seen the little forward give some very whole-hearted displays in over 200 appearances, scoring 40 goals in the process.

Along with McVeigh, Frenchman Matthieu Louis-Jean and former Blackburn, Stoke and Cardiff striker Peter Thorne have also been released, as has youngster Andrew Fisk.

Louis-Jean, who signed from Nottingham Forest in a swap deal involving Gary Holt, saw his spell at Carrow Road disrupted by injury. He was limited to just two appearances soon after his arrival in 2005, failing to feature again after returning from a torn hamstring.

Thorne has also seen opportunities limited and his reputedly high salary should open up some space on the wage bill for new summer recruits. His place in the first team was never secure as he found himself behind the likes of Dean Ashton and was later usurped by Dion Dublin in the 'big man' role to Robert Earnshaw's 'little man'. Chris Brown is a ready-made (and already signed) replacement.

All five players will leave when their contracts expire on June 30th.
