Four Four Two remembers European escapade

Mike Walker's achievements in masterminding one of the more unlikely ventures into Europe in recent times are to be remembered in an article in Four Four Two magazine.

Walker's side, which featured the likes of Chris Sutton, Ruel Fox, Bryan Gunn and Jeremy Goss, made it to the third round of the UEFA Cup in the 1993-94 season, losing to eventual winners Inter Milan after eliminating German giants Bayern Munich.

The Canaries captured the imagination of the watching public when they gained a surprising but deserved victory of a Munich side featuring the legendary Lothar Matthaus. Goss' spectacular volley and a Mark Bowen header gave the side that finished third in the inaugural Premer League season a 2-1 victory in the Olympic Stadium, making them the first British side to win there.

The run was the zenith for a talented team and was ended by a young Dennis Bergkamp, who scored the only goal in both legs as Inter scraped past the sprited Yellows.

The squad was eventually broken up when the manager left for Everton and some of the more sought after players were lured away in big transfers, including Sutton's record £5million transfer to Blackburn Rovers.

Four Four Two will be on sale on the 5th September from all good newsagents and some rubbish ones.
