On the day the Old Enemy returns to Wembley, Germans are threatening to scupper Norwich in their bid for defensive reinforcements.

Ian Murray, a versatile Rangers defender/midfielder, has been linked with a switch to Carrow Road before the end of the transfer window. Hertha Berlin, however, are said to be keen to take the former Hibernian captain to the German capital. Sheffield Wednesday complete the trio of clubs chasing the 26-year-old.

Rangers boss Walter Smith has admitted that Murray could be on his way, and was today rumoured to be interested in signing Portsmouth defender Dejan Stefanovic, pushing Murray further down the pecking order.

"We're in a situation where one or two are surplus to requirements," said Smith, "But whether they go or not is down to other clubs."

Meanwhile Darren O'Dea's potential move from Celtic is also still in the offing, although sources suggest the young Irishman has a role to play at Celtic Park this term.
