Huckerby: I'll Take A Pay Cut

Last updated : 03 December 2003 By Thomas Rooney
This is good news for Norwich fans, as it seems that wages are no longer a problem in the bid to sign the on loan star. The biggest stumbling block is still the transfer fee that Man City will demand and Huckerby realises this could be a problem.

Will they stay or will they go??

"I would have to take a pay cut no doubt about that. I'm not stupid there's not the money in Division One that there was. But I don't think that's the biggest problem I don't think that it will get that far, it's irrelevant really," revealed Huckerby.

"If I had the choice I'd love to stay and play for Norwich City, but it's not down to me. It doesn't matter what I want or what the manager wants for that matter.

"If Manchester City see me more valuable than what Norwich can pay then that's that," he added.

Huckerby also stated that he is dreading the thought of leaving the Canaries to go back into the shadows of Manchester City.

"I think the team's progressed really well since we've come. I think the team was in around 14th when we arrived so to be second after 20-odd games is great.

"As it stands I've got two games left with Norwich and I want to do all I can in those games so that we are hopefully sitting at the top of the table.

"It's sad for everyone really," he added. "I will go back with no real future at Manchester City, playing in what team I don't know, when the lads at Norwich will still be working hard. I'll be sat watching the results come in on Teletext!" admitted Huckerby candidly.

Looking forward to his last two games for the Canaries, he believes that opposition teams have to adopt a different style of play when they come to visit the Fortress that is Carrow Road.

He said: "Teams are having to change the way they play when they come to Carrow Road, they don't play their own game as they try to stop us. And that has to be a complement about the way that we are playing."

"Every game is different and it's not going to be the same game against Millwall as at Carrow Road, but if they change the way they play hopefully that will suit us."

I am personally still hopeful we will be able to agree a fee with Manchester City. It is good to here that wages won't be as big a problem as we thought they would. For anyone going to Millwall on Saturday I've got a new song you can sing.......... 'Delia Write a book, Delia Delia, Write a book...............'
