Norwich City striker Chris Martin has said he will prove his quality as a striker in the Championship this year. The 21-year-old scored 17 League One goals to help Norwich to promotion last season but insists he will not take a repeat of that tally for granted.

He told BBC Radio Norfolk: "I think everyone has to prove themselves from season to season to get in the team.

"You can't sit back and rest on your laurels, you have to work hard and that's what the squad will do."

Norwich spent just one season in League One following relegation from the Championship at the end of the 2009/10 season.

I'd welcome any signings as it's good to have competition

"It's going to be a lot harder this year in the Championship," he said.

"It's a very competitive league with a lot of big teams who think they should be a league higher in the Premier League.

"There are people in the squad who have played in the Championship more than others.

"But there are people who are hungry for that experience and they will want to prove themselves at the Championship level."

Martin has worked hard to establish himself in Paul Lambert's side having come up through the club's youth system but insists he would not be feel threatened by new strikers arriving at the club.

"I'd welcome any signings as it's good to have competition and it always pushes you to play better."
