Fresh from compiling what was at the time an exhaustive list of Norwich boss Glenn Roeder's copious number of transfer targets, another emerged last night when 21-year-old Italian forward Arturo Lupoli hoved into view.

Lupoli, who began his career at Parma but was snapped up by Arsenal, is under contract to Serie A side Fiorentina until 2012. He spent last season on loan at Treviso.

The Viola released an official statement last night that Norwich had made an offer regarding a permanent transfer, but that they were only prepared to consider a loan deal. Negotiations are ongoing for a satisfactory resolution.

Lupoli scored three goals for Arsenal in his eight Carling Cup appearances. He also played in a solitayr FA Cup and Premier League match for the Gunners. He then went on loan to Derby County, where his 11 goals helped them into the top division. His transfer to his native Italy followed.

It is likely that Roeder was alerted to the striker by his former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger. Whether the player arrives on a loan or a permanent deal, he is sure to prove an exciting acquisition.
