The Canaries keeper, who was one of three keepers named by England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson for the game in Madrid on Wednesday night, is expected to withdraw from the 22-man party after picking up a knee injury during the 4-0 defeat to Charlton on Saturday.

Green was replaced by Darren Ward midway through the second half of the game at The Valley after a bang on the side of his knee..

"It was a dead leg and I did it quite early in the first half," Green told the clubs official website after the game at Charlton.

"Although it's painful, I'm hopeful it will be days (out) rather than weeks. I will just have to see how it is.

"I'm desperate to go and play any sort of game for my country. It's something very special.

"If it's a case of going along and seeing how the injury is, then I will. But I will have to wait and see."
