Lambert lauds Canaries show

Norwich manager Paul Lambert had nothing but praise for the way in which his side bounced back from their opening-day defeat to Watford by booking their place in the second round of the Carling Cup. Captain Grant Holt marked his return to the City starting XI with a brace in their 4-1 win over Gillingham, coming after he made a brief appearance from the bench following a thigh injury as the Canaries lost 3-2 to Watford on Friday night. Chris Martin also got his name on the scoresheet twice as Lambert`s side fought back in style to cancel out Chris Palmer`s opener for the League Two outfit. "I'm delighted to get through to the next round, whatever the competition is you want to go and win the game and I was pleased with our performance," said Lambert. "I thought we played some excellent football at times and scored some good goals. It was a good all-round effort. "It was good to see the lads bounce back after the defeat against Watford here on Friday night. Looking back on that one there were a number of things that went wrong which I should have stopped during the game but that's gone now and I was delighted with the response here. "The way we approached the game was fantastic and there were a lot of pluses out there."
