Norwich City boss Paul Lambert has joined the club in rejecting an approach from Championship rivals Burnley for his services. The Clarets have been without a manager since sacking Brian Laws on 29 December, with Stuart Gray placed in temporary charge of the first team.

Lambert, 41, told the Norwich website: "I want to put the speculation to bed - I've never had any intention of going."

Norwich said: "Under no circumstances would we wish to grant permission."

Burnley are understood to have a shortlist of six candidates, with Lambert leading the contenders.

All the speculation is wide of the mark and hopefully now the rumour mill about the Burnley job can focus elsewhere and we can all move on

But Lambert added: "I've said on numerous occasions that I'm happy here and that's still the case.

"The players and the fans have been tremendous for us since we joined here and what they have achieved over the last 16 months or so is absolutely phenomenal, as I keep saying.

"We've got a job to do here, starting with an important FA Cup match against Leyton Orient tomorrow - and that's what I want everyone to be focusing on.

"I want to put the speculation to bed - I've never had any intention of going elsewhere and nothing has changed.

"All the speculation is wide of the mark and hopefully now the rumour mill about the Burnley job can focus elsewhere and we can all move on."

Norwich, third in the Championship and level on points with second-placed Cardiff on 43, will not want to lose Lambert, who has been in charge at Carrow Road since August 2009 after taking over from the sacked Bryan Gunn.

I agree there is no logic to him going to Burnley - everything points at him simply saying 'no thanks', but I suppose stranger things have happened in football

Lambert led the Canaries out of League One and back into the Championship, where the club has made an excellent start to the season.

The Scot has been nominated for the Championship's manager of the month award for December alongside Watford boss Malky Mackay, Leeds' Simon Grayson and Reading manager Brian McDermott.

Burnley are 11th in the Championship and have won one and lost one match since Law's dismissal on 29 December.
