Lambert unconvinced by City form

Lambert told BBC Radio Norfolk he was less than impressed: "What I take out of it is we're just not good enough to turn up at any football ground.

"Albeit it's a pre-season friendly, the main thing is to get people fit and to get people ready."

It was the second warm-up match on the bounce where City had failed to find the net, after Tuesday's goalless draw with Stevenage.

Lambert used 21 different players at Victoria Road, with notable absentees being the injured Grant Holt, Steven Smith and Stephen Hughes.

Jens Berthel Askou did not make the trip while defender Zak Whitbread tweaked a calf muscle during the pre-match work-out.

New striker Simeon Jackson added an hour of football to the 45 minutes he picked up against Borough, but once again failed to find his scoring touch.

"He's done fine since he came here," said Lambert.

"He's got to get used to playing with the lads we have and he'll do great for us, I'm sure."

The 23-year-old admits he is still settling into the club he joined from Gillingham a week ago.

"It's good for me personally to get 60 minutes under my belt," he said.

"There's a lot of new players trying to fit in and trying to gel."

Jackson netted 35 league goals during his two-and-a-half year spell with the Gills, but is not revealing his am for his first Championship campaign.

"I never make my target public," he said.

"But I'm definitely here to get goals for the club and hopefully push the club in the right direction.

"I look to play off the shoulder of defenders, get goals and work hard for the team."

City welcome Premier League side Newcastle to Carrow Road on Saturday when Lambert will look to give a host of players a longer run-out than they have so far this summer.
