Lewis standing by for debut

Nigel Worthington could be forced to field a second debutant goalkeeper in successive matches against Queens Park Rangers at Carrow Road this afternoon.

Joe Lewis, a graduate of Norwich City's Academy, could be called upon to replace Scotland International Paul Gallacher, who made his long-awaited debut after a last minute injury to Robert Green in the warm-up at Hillsborough on Saturday. Gallacher took a knock to the hip late in the match, which City lost 1-0, when he collided with Sheffield Wednesday's Deon Burton.

Lewis, who is just 18 but stands at 6 feet 5 inches tall, would follow fellow Academy stars Rossi Jarvis and Michael Spillane in making full debuts this season. Spillane will be hoping to continue at right back this afternoon after replacing veteran Craig Fleming to make his first start at Hillsborough.

Gallacher, however, is desperate to be fit in order to build on his impressive display when finally given a chance between the sticks. Having moved to Norfolk from Dundee United in 2004, the 26-year-old had to wait until 15 minutes before kick-off to find out that his two-year wait for first team action had been brought to an end by Green's ankle injury.

Despite the knock, the Scot is keen to taste the atmosphere of a bumper Bank Holiday crowd at Carrow Road.

"I am a bit sore right now but I'll certainly be ready for Monday if the call comes," Gallacher told the EDP. "To be honest I'd probably say I was fit even if I still felt a bit of pain because I just want to play! I have got a chance at the moment and am I determined to take it."
