Lupoli signing confirmed

A bit of kidology from Norwich City boss Glenn Roeder last week, when he successfully convinced the assembled press that he had barely heard of Arturo Lupoli, thankfully proved to be just that when the Italian striker joined the Canaries on a season-long loan.

The former Arsenal man, who is rumoured to have been recommended to Roeder by Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, was originally the target for a permanent transfer but will instead leave parent club Fiorentina for a second loan spell in two seasons.

Prior to joining the Viola, when he rejected a new contract at the Emirates Stadium, Lupoli had a loan spell at Championship side Derby County which ended in their promotion to the Premier League via the Play-Offs.

"I am very happy to be here and hope to contribute for a great season for Norwich City and to be successful," Lupoli told the Canaries World. "I spoke to the manager and I really feel that he wants me here.

And it was not just Wenger who played a part in the move. David Bentley, currently agitating for a move from Blackburn with Tottenham Hotspur the most likely destination for the England winger, has also had an influence.

"I know a lot about Norwich City - I was with Arsenal when they and my team-mate David Bentley were in the Premier League and have followed their progress."
