Newcastle and Northampton are the first sides named as pre-season opponents for the Canaries in preparation for the 2006-2007 Coca Cola Championship season.

Glenn Roeder's Magpies, able to boast stars like Michael Owen and former Norwich loanee Scott Parker, will come to Norfolk to take part in a testimonial match for City veteran Craig Fleming.

Fleming, who has played 370 times for Norwich since joining from Oldham Athletic for £600,000 in 1997, expressed his delight at welcoming a Newcastle side defeated on their last visit to Carrow Road.

"It's taken a while to sort out but I wanted first and foremost for the evening to be a really special occasion, a night for the fans to savour and something that I can look back on with fond memories for the rest of my life when I finish playing," said Fleming.

"I'm delighted that Newcastle United are coming. They've got some world class players there and it will hopefully be a competitive and thoroughly entertaining match."
