More men down for Luton trip

Having already lost significant numbers in both midfield and attack, it was the turn of the defence to be decimated by injury at Colney today.

On loan centre back Callum Davenport, a revelation since arriving from Spurs, is suffering with a hamstring strain, while Craig Fleming, who has been out of favour in recent weeks, has come down with something that bears all he hallmarks of 'flu.

With Simon Charlton, a natural choice as cover but who has been used mostly in midfield this term, also struggling with a hamstring problem, and youngster Jason Shackell nursing ankle ligament damage, it is to be hoped that Charlton and Davenport will pass late fitness tests ahead of tomorrow evening's match.

Of the missing midfielders, only Andy Hughes looks set to recover in time, with Dean Marney's knee continuing to rule him out and Youssef Safri not expected back for at least a couple of weeks.

Worthington may hope for another successful dip into the loan market, but will struggle to have anything in place in the next 24 hours. Fortunately, Dean Ashton, who scored City's equaliser on Saturday, does not seem to have had any reaction to the injury which threatened to keep him out of the Millwall match.
