Morrison move could open up options

Out-of-contract Crystal Palace striker Clinton Morrison is training with Coventry City and could join the Sky Blues on a free transfer. While this may disappoint Canaries fans who had hoped Glenn Roeder would move for the Republic of Ireland international, it may open up other avenues.

Morrison's arrival at the Ricoh Arena would follow the acquisition of another former Norwich target, Freddy Eastwood, from Wolves. The pair would join the coveted Leon Best and Michael Mifsud, as well as giant ex-Sunderland man Kevin Kyle and former Carrow Road favourite Leon McKenzie in Chris Coleman's attacking options. This is surely an embarrassment of riches for any club, as well as a hefty weight on the wage bill, so could losing out on Morrison be of benefit to Roeder?

Having seen Robert Earnshaw, Eastwood, Andy Cole, Kevin Phillips and now probably Morrison move to rival clubs, could a return for McKenzie be on the cards? Or would Kyle, who has been linked with the Canaries in the past, be the big man to Jamie Cureton's wee man? Even the reported imminent capture of 44 goal Linfield hitman Peter Thompson will not sufficiently bolster the Norwich attack, which comprises only Cureton and youngsters Chris Martin and Kris Renton. Gary Doherty has international experience in attack but remains one of two central defenders while the loan signing of Tamas Kadar from Newcastle remains unconfirmed.

With City kicking off their public pre-season in Gorleston tonight, the pressure is on Roeder to bolster his wafer-thin squad to keep pace with the rest of the division, let alone hope to compete in the upper echelons. Watch this space.
