News of the World apologise to Canaries

Norwich have announced they will be paid a "five-figure sum" by the News of the World after they claimed the Canaries were on the verge of administration. The League One leaders issued legal proceedings for libel against the newspaper after it published a story on January 24 headlined "Canaries on brink". However, a settlement has now been reached which involves the publication of an apology to the club and its chairman Alan Bowkett, together with a payment of a five-figure sum in damages. Norwich's legal costs have also been paid in full and the club's solicitors, Leathes Prior, have confirmed the High Court proceedings have been withdrawn. Bowkett told the club's official website: "We are delighted that this matter has been sensibly resolved, that the truth has been established and that the club's reputation is restored. "It was disappointing that the News of the World published the article in question, and faced with that article the club had no option but to stand up and protect its position. We are pleased the matter is now concluded."
