Nicholson a no-go - Roeder

Contrary to quotes attributed to his head of player recruitment Bryan Gunn, Norwich manager Glenn Roeder has denied any interest in Aberdeen's Barry Nicholson.

Roeder angrily slammed rumours he was after tha 29-year-old former Scotland international and rounded on agents for creating interest where there is none.

"I have no intention of signing Nicholson and to be honest I'm unhappy with agents who talk up their players supposedly going to clubs regardless of whether or not any bid has actually been made," the Canaries boss told the club's website.

Nicholson is one of a number of wide midfielders linked with Norwich in recent weeks with Blackpool's Wes Hoolahan reportedly close to signing. Luton Town's David Bell, another winger, seems further away after the Canaries were told to double their bid. Scotland under-21 man Kevin McDonald is also said to be a target, along with Blackburn's Maceo Rigters.

Any move for Rigters looks likely to now be complicated by the imminent departure of Rovers manager Mark Hughes, most likely to Manchester City, and the replacement's opinion of the Dutchman. Names already circulating for the Ewood Park hotseat include Sam Allardyce and Steve McClaren.
