Norwich Relegated From Premier League Following Loss to West Ham

Norwich City have been relegated from the Premier League after being thrashed by West Ham at Carrow Road on Saturday.

The Canaries were promoted as title winners from the Championship last season but will be returning to the second tier after a single campaign in the top flight.

Going into their game against the Hammers, Daniel Farke's side knew that only a win would guarantee their faint hopes of survival were kept alive, with a draw likely to condemn them if results went against them elsewhere. They ended up falling to a 4-0 defeat - with each goal coming from frontman Michail Antonio.

The result means that Norwich cannot escape the drop zone and will almost certainly finish bottom of the Premier League table.

They started the season off strongly, bouncing back from an opening day defeat against Liverpool with a 3-1 win over Newcastle United, in which Teemu Pukki grabbed a fine hat-trick. Defeats to Chelsea and West Ham followed before they sensationally defeated reigning champions Manchester City 3-2 at Carrow Road - the highlight of their season without doubt.

Norwich's form took a nosedive after that. Despite occasionally playing some attractive attacking football, Farke's side would lose six of their next seven games, including a humiliating 5-1 defeat to fellow strugglers Aston Villa.

They endured a similarly poor run of results over Christmas and into the New Year, though an FA Cup victory over Tottenham just prior to football's enforced break did provide fans some respite from their dire league displays.

Since action resumed in June, Norwich have lost every game with their loss to West Ham on Saturday confirming what many had been expecting for several months. Aston Villa and Bournemouth are looking set to join them as it stands - as both West Ham and Watford pulled away from the drop zone with wins in Saturday's early kick offs.
