Holt told BBC Radio Norfolk he would have had the treatment earlier if results had gone differently.

He said: "We had it pencilled in sooner but we bottled a couple of games. Thankfully we got it done and it gives us the chance to be back by 1 July."

He added: "We'll get ready for pre-season and hopefully if everything goes well we'll be good."

It feels great, we've checked it over and it's looking really good, hopefully I can be ready for the first of July.

Holt, who scored 30 goals in Norwich's League One-winning season, said it was not easy playing through his ankle problem.

"It's been tough, the medical team have had to keep an eye on it. I've had days off and it's been niggly, but when it comes to a game you forget about it," he said.

"Now I've had it done it feels great. We've checked it over and it's looking really good. Hopefully I can be ready for 1 July and, fingers crossed, get ready for the Championship."
