Pattison to leave on loan? Please don't let this happen

If there is one criticism I would have over the Bryan Gunn regime so far, it is the exclusion of Glenn Roeder's first buy, Matty Pattison.

Pattison has been nothing other than wholehearted in his efforts for Norwich and, at a time when this is exactly what is needed, remains resolutely out of the first team picture.

Those who see him as nothing but a workhorse neglect the awesome range of passing that he displayed early in his Carrow Road career. He hasn't fulfilled that early promise, but this season scored some crucial goals against Forest and Ipswich, and has never let his enthusiasm get the better of him, unlike Darel Russell who has spent far too long suspended since returning to the club.

I am pleased with the direction the side seems to be taking, but what struck me at the QPR game was that there wasn't a huge amount of personality about the team. To my mind, Pattison is a potential fans' favourite and oozes personality. I know he's had his off-field problems, however, and fear Gunny may have taken a dislike to this side of him.

I understand Pattison's frustration and desire to play first team football, but believe our paper thin squad needs all the bodies we've got, and that shooting him off to a rival could be a massive mistake. With Fotheringham, in many ways his opposite, out of favour, we are short in the middle of the park anyway.

Please Gunny, bring Matty in from the cold!
