Rivals prepare bid for defender

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy is keen to stretch Norwich's defensive resources by offering £1miilion for defender Jason Shackell.

Shackell, one of only four recognised defenders on the Carrow Road books on a permanent contract, is being lined up for a switch to Molineux to replace Gary Breen and Jody Craddock. Tewnty-four year-old Shackell has established himself as a crucial player at Norwich, beginning last season as captain, and has even made a name for himself on MTV.

Chelsea defender Ryan Bertrand's return on loan has bolstered Roeder's rearguard, and two other potential new signings, former Blackburn defender Bruno Berner and French right-back Patrick Barul, are currently on trial at the club. If Roeder can find a suitable replacement for Shackell, a £1million offer could be tempting
