Roeder failed in Harper bid

Glenn Roeder's attempts to poach half the staff from Newcastle United are believed to have included an attempt to capture reserve goalkeeper Steve Harper.

Norwich sold Joe Lewis this week and, with Matthew Gilks injured, Roeder is short of experienced cover for David Marshall. He is reported to have made an approach for Harper with a view to taking him on a permanent deal to Carrow Road, although a loan move would have been more likely.

Roeder has already taken midfielder Matty Pattison from St James' Park and is keen on out-of-favour striker Shola Ameobi, who is fancied by several Premier League sides.
