Roeder holding out for Iversen

Former Tottenham and Wolves striker Steffen Iversen remains the man Glenn Roeder wants to spearhead the Norwich attack, if inferences are being correctly made.

Iversen, who currently plays for Rosenborg in his native Norway, has apparently been promised by the club that he can move to England should an appropriate bid come in. Roeder believes they are not abiding by this promise, having spurned the Canaries' advances.

Now the Norwich boss, whose side needed an inspirational intervention from Arturo Lupoli to avoid defeat at Cardiff on Saturday, is praying that Rosenborg lose their second leg UEFA Cup tie against Swedish side Djurgarden on Thursday, removing some of the motivation to keep Iversen until the end of the Norwegian season.

"There is a European game on this week that we could do with a team getting beaten, let's say that, and going out of Europe. That would help significantly," Roeder told the Eastern Daily Press.

"They made a promise to the lad if an English club comes forward he could move and basically they've not kept a promise. They're saying he can't - it's nothing to do with finances.

"I am not going to get into a war of words with his club because that will only make it more difficult, but they are just not at the moment keeping a promise they made to the player."
