Still no new faces as end of window draws close

With barely 24 hours before the transfer window slams shut, Norwich's hard-working manager will take his chances and risk getting his fingers caught in his pursuit of signings to take his side forward.

Jonatan Johansson of Charlton Athletic is the latest name put to Nigel Worthington who he has admitted is of interest. Previous targets Gary McSheffrey, Cameron Jerome, Robert Earnshaw, Calum Davenport and Greg Halford all look increasingly remote possibilites to join training at Colney after the Reading game tomorrow night.

Johansson was reported to be a target for City ahead of their season in the Premiership, but elected to fight for his place at the Valley. The 30-year-old Finland international has been part of Alan Curbishley's squad for more than five years, but has seen first team chances become scarce since the arrival of Darren Bent and, more recently, Marcus Bent.

As for other targets, Earnshaw appears to have been ruled out of a move after West Brom boss Bryan Robson claimed he was unprepared to move down to the Championship. McSheffrey and Jerome are both being closely guarded by their clubs, while Halford's Colchester have a trip to Everton or Chelsea ahead to appease the bank manager before they have to sell any of their coveted youngsters.

Davenport, who was only touted as having re-emerged as a target this weekend, has already fallen off the radar when Tottenham priced him out of Worthington's reach.
