Strike target hands in transfer request

Martin Paterson, relegated Scunthorpe's 14-goal top scorer, has handed in a transfer request to the club, potentially sparking a scramble for his signature.

The Iron hitman, 21, has been the subject of bids from Burnley in recent weeks, has been informed by the club that the request has been rejected, but a move seems more likely given the player's reluctance to stay at Glanford Park.

Norwich boss Glenn Roeder was linked with a swoop for the youngster in January and may now be alerted to the potential availability of a proven Championship goalscorer.
