Canaries boss Nigel Worthington confirmed the injury that Rivers suffered during the first half of the 4-0 win against Watford at Carrow Road last Saturday.
"The injury is his hamstring," Worthington told the club's official website.
"And while it is disappointing to lose him for two to three weeks it will be an opportunity for certain players to stake their claim for a place in the first team."
