Boss Paul Lambert brought the 25-year-old to Colchester from Shrewsbury in January 2009 and has made 85 appearances for the club, scoring one goal.
Tierney was named the Us` players' player of the year last season and Lambert told the club`s official website: "He's a top lad. He was great for me at Colchester and his attitude and his desire for the game are absolutely top class.
"He knows he'll have to fight for a place in the team but it's great to have a squad with healthy competition for places."
