Tilson approach turned down

Norwich have been rebuffed in their bid to discuss the empty manager's office at Carrow Road with Southend United manager Steve Tilson.

Tilson, who has achieved back-to-back promotions with the Shrimpers and is one of the most highly rated young managers in the English game, was targetted to succeed Nigel Worthington. His chairman at Roots Hall, however, has no intention of letting him leave.

"Norwich did call me requesting permission to talk to Steve but I discouraged them," Ron Martin told the Southend Echo. "We certainly don't want Steve to leave and I think he sees his future at Southend United as well."The search for a new boss continues, with Mark Bowen still heavily tipped as the favourite.
