Two pieces of bad news

After Bryan Gunn admitted his frustrations in attemtping to sign Crystal Palace striker Alan Lee, Barnsley have complicated the issue by expressing an interest.

Alan Lee

While Gunn espoused his desire to try and conduct transfer negotiations in private, Eagles boss Neil Warnock has again gone public in a bid to try and force the sale of Lee, who he deems as surplus to his requirements.

As subtle as a breezeblock, Warnock highlighted that Norwich have not bid enough, and are not offering Lee high enough wages, while then throwing Barnsley into the mix for good measure. Fortunately Gunn has alternatives, but with Lee and Canaries fans both keen on a reunion, it would be a shame not to be able to realise those hopes.

Matty Pattison

Another potential shame could be the transfer of Matty Pattison to Blackpool. Pattison, Glenn Roeder's first permanent signing, has been frozen out under Gunn and the suspicion that he would be allowed to leave is hardly outlandish. From a personal point of view I always found Pattison wholehearted and occasinally brilliant. In his early appearances he came up with some incredibly insightful passes, and he scored some important goals.

With Gunn having been an interested observer prior to taking the reigns, it would appear that Pattison's off-field persona may have done more harm than any shortcomings on the pitch.
