And the Canaries boss was pleased with the debut of new boy Dean Ashton despite the side suffering a 3-0 defeat at Villa Park.

"I thought Villa were very good on the day. They showed their quality of being established in the Premier League," he said after the game.

"As much as we worked hard the quality was missing. Villa were very bright on the day when Hendrie and Angel showed their ability.

"Ashton did very well. It was a big step up but he will get the time at Norwich to improve. I am looking forward to him scoring a lot of goals for Norwich.

"There is still a lot to play for in the remaining 15 games and we will keep going to the last whistle of the season."
