Worthy - we don't have to sell to buy

If Nigel Worthington has his way, the numbers in the Norwich squad will be increasing rather than decreasing by the end of January, with the bank balance going the opposite way.

The City boss told the Eastern Daily Press that he is under no pressure to raise funds by selling any of his stars, and that there is money to spend already in the kitty.

“To say I have got to sell to buy players is complete rubbish - that's not the case at all," said the brillo-haired gaffer. “There is some money available for transfers and I am grateful for that - it's just a case of getting people here who are sensibly priced and can fit in with our wages."

As for the two particular men continually linked with moves away from Norfolk, Worthington added the following:

“There is nothing new to report on Ashton and Green - and we are not in a mind to sell the players,” he said. “I don't want to sell, the board doesn't want to sell and the supporters don't want to sell. It would take a really special offer to even make us think about it because we know how important they are to us.

“As much as the players might be ambitious I am ambitious as a manager and this football club is ambitious as well."
