Youngsters not for keeps

Canaries fans concerned about the long-term future on the playing side will have been given no comfort by Glenn Roeder's admission that he won't be able to keep any of his Premier League loanees.

Reading pair Alex Pearce and James Henry, Arsenal's Kieran Gibbs and Middlesbrough's Matthew Bates all came in on transfer deadline day to join the likes of Ryan Bertrand, Ched Evans and Mo Camara as temporary recruits. In relation to the new guys, Roeder is under no illusions about keeping them.

"None of the players that are here are for sale," he told TeamTalk. "We have taken four players that are not buyable, they are all wanted back at their Premiership clubs at the end of the season. Hopefully they are not called back after 28 days. A couple of them potentially that could happen with. I really feel those four players are going to lift the technical level that is in the squad and help us to climb into the top half of the table."

With the expected retirement of Dion Dublin and the departure of Darren Huckerby at the end of his contract, Norwich are likely to face a massive recruitment drive come the summer.
