Goals from Mark McGregor and Glen Little saw to it that Burnley brushed aside the challenge of City to reawaken their own hopes of promotion.

Marlon Beresford turned in a top-class display on goal and Robbie Blake an outstanding effort up front as Burnley inflicted upon Norwich a third straight away defeat.

Burnley boss Stan Ternent said: “I thought we deserved it and it's a great result against a very good side. People forget that we are a good side too, you don't finish seventh seasons in a row unless you can play a bit.

“Marlon made some good saves and there were man of the match contenders all over the pitch for us.”Norwich manager Nigel Worthington said: “Apart from not scoring I was pleased and I could have no complaints in terms of commitment effort and energy.

“On another day we would have scored two or three, but that's how it goes and it was a smashing match, a great advert for the first division.”Burnley had a goal disallowed in the 20th minute when Ian Moore was offside and Norwich hit a post when a shot from Paul McVeigh was pushed aside by Beresford.

Norwich also missed three great chances early in the second half before McGregorÂ’s superb diving header broke the deadlock in the 57th minute.

Burnley sealed an impressive victory five minutes from time when the brilliant Blake crossed for Little to score at the far post.

Coming on the back of a win over Coventry and draw at Rotherham, Burnley now seem to be getting their act together, but their are worrying signs for Norwich this was their third successive away defeat
