Millwall 4 Norwich City 0

Norwich started the match with Zema Abbey partnering Iwan Roberts up-front as Marc Libbra is currently in France due to the unfortunate death of his father-in-law.

Millwall looked the better side throughout the match although the Canaries did make an effort to pass the ball well, but despite all the careful build-up the Canaries failed to score. I don't get it - our pre-season went so well, what went wrong??

A bad defensive error allowed the Lions' new signing Steve Claridge to score the first goal with just over 10 minutes of the match gone. Claridge slotted home on the second attempt, having found himself completely unmarked six yards out.

Norwich Captain Neil Emblen went off through injury around the half hour mark, and his replacement, Darel Russell, inspired the team to get off the back foot and go forward a bit more.
Courtesy of some stout defending plus a little bit of luck Norwich managed to hold on until the end of the first half, when it really looked like Norwich were getting themselves back into the game.
Suddenly we had a few real chances - first Warner saved a powerful header from Iwan Roberts, and then Llewellyn shot wide.
Then, suddenly, we were on the back foot again and Millwall had scored a second - Steven Reid scoring a brilliant goal from 35 yards out. The curling shot left Greeno with no chance. 2-0 down right before half-time. Not good.

Norwich started the second half brightly, looking much more confident. The confidence bred a few more chances - Tony Warner saving on the line from Darel Russell and then blocking Iwan Roberts's shot. Millwall came close a few times through Livermore, then Reid, and Tim Cahill forced a fine reflex stop from Green.

Inevitably Millwall scored again and pretty much wrapped the game up on 66 minutes when Cahill scored from close range after Greeno blocked a 25 yeard drive from Reid.

The Millwall keeper didn't have much to do compared to Greeno - he managed to kick Zema Abbey's bobbling drive around the post and also saved the Zema's close-range header later on.

Lucas Neill then rounded off the scoring in the final minute with a shot from the edge of the box that was deflected by Richard Sadler, again leaving Greeno with no chance.

All in all, not a good start to the season really. To put it lightly!
