Nigel Worthington gave goalkeeper Paul Crichton his first start of the campaign, dropping the previously ever-present Robert Green after his mistakes in goal were partly responsible for the 0-4 score-line against Chelsea last Wednesday. Elsewhere, David Nielsen returned in up-front place of Marc Libbra and Adam Drury returned from an ankle injury to reclaim his place at left-back.

Before the televised game began, both sets of players and fans immaculately observed a minutes silence in memory of one of the 1959 FA Cup heroes, Bryan Thurlow, who passed away recently.

In rather damp and blustery conditions, Millwall started the stronger of the two sides and Paul Crichton was nearly embarrassed early on when Robbie Ryan's tentative cross was carried goalward by the wind and the Canaries keeper had to gather the ball against the post. Ryan troubled the Norwich defence again after 26 minutes, but thankfully his long-range effort was gathered by Crichton at the second attempt.

Despite its billing as a promotion battle, the game was really only sparked into life three minutes before the break when a contentious decision saw Darel Russell given his marching orders. Russell was in the process of being pushed around by two Millwall players and only extended his arm to defend himself, but unfortunately the ref saw Darel's raised arm and went straight for his pocket.

This, rather surprisingly, turned out to be a blessing in disguise. With ten men Norwich now dominated the game, limiting Millwall to a few half-chances in the second period.

Norwich had the best chance to win the game - it came on 74 minutes when Steen Nedergaard's right-wing cross was met by the lively but goal-shy Alex Notman. Unfortuately for us the Lions' keeper Tony Warner - who in all truth had not had much to do before this - pulled off a superb point-blank save to turn the ball over the bar.

The result retains Norwich's place in sixth spot. A draw against the team placed third, with only ten men as well, is a very respectable result. Especially considering how this team trounced us 4-0 on the opening day of the season!
