Norwich City 1 Doncaster 1

City struggled to overcome injury ravaged Doncaster and could only score once against a side that has one of the worse away records in the Championship.

The Yorkshire side made a mockery of their vain attempts to get the game postponed by the FA with 15 first-team players unavailable. Grant Holt's first half goal was wiped out by Adam Drury's 83rd minute own goal.

This time, despite five minutes of added times, there was to be no late late show by the home side.

Paul Lambert named the same starting eleven that played and deservedly earnt a vital point at Elland Road on Saturday. Matt Gill, back at Carrow Road after his month's loan at Walsall immediately went back onto the bench alongside new loan signing Rob Edwards, who has joined from Blackpool for three months as cover for Leon Barnett.

After a very slow start by the Canaries they then scored in the 31st minute with their first real attempt at goal. In fact, it was a delightful left-wing cross from Drury that was volleyed home at the far post by Holt , which should have set the home side on course for victory.

Unfortunately for the Norwich fans, the chances came and went without any of their players scoring the second goal that would undoubtedly have dispelled the tension evident both on the pitch and in another bumper crowd of over 25,000.

Holt missed the target just before half time with a first-time shot when Drury picked him out again, with a low left-wing cross.

HALF-TIME: City 1 Doncaster 0

Niether manager made any change, hoping their half-time team talk would make the difference to low-key performance before the break.

In the 59th minute City's leading scorer Holt, failed again after doing well to control a lofted diagonal cross into the box from Henri Lansbury.

Four minutes later Aaron Wilbraham looked certain to score his first goal for City, when he met Russell Martin's right wing cross with a firm header, but it was too close to veteran keeper, Neil Sullivan, whose reflexes appear to be as sharp as ever.

Holt then pulled the ball back to Andrew Crofts, but his fierce shot went wide of the target.

There then seemed a certain inevitability about the outcome, but the manner in which the equaliser came in the 83rd minute owed as much to Drury's misjudgement, as it did to John Oster's well struck in-swinging corner.

Oster created the unlikely point after his corner from the left was deflected into the net by Drury at the near post, as the City left-back attempted a headed clearance.

The Canaries had created enough chances to have won by a comfortable margin, but this time there was to be no salvation in stoppage time.
