Phil Mulryne netted late on to get The Canaries back to winning ways after Barnsley's Chris Barker had cancelled out Iwan Roberts's opener. The game started poorly, but things eventually livened up after half an hour when Gary Holt picked up the ball deep in his own half and played it out wide to Paul McVeigh on the left.
McVeigh whipped in a testing cross that Roberts met powerfully with a downward header. Barnsley keeper Kevin Miller got down well to keep it out but pushed it onto his post and could only watch as the ball cruelly rolled across the goal-line. Roberts showed the quickest reactions and gratefully rammed home from close range.
The visitors best chance came a few minutes prior to the goal after The Tykes had forced a corner. Darren Barnard's set-piece reached Chris Morgan who first headed goalwards and then fired in a shot but both efforts were well blocked.
City could have extended their lead just minutes after going ahead. Frenchman Marc Libbra set Mulryne on his way with a neat back-heel and he put in a dangerous cross that Roberts again managed to get on the end of. It looked a goal all the way until Miller somehow dived across his goal to brilliantly deny him a second.
After the break, Nigel Worthington's side continued to control the game as they tried to kill off the visitors' threat, so when the equaliser arrived it was completely out of the blue.
Barnard's corner should have been dealt with by keeper Robert Greene, but he flapped wildly at it and the ball bounced in off a surprised Chris Barker at the far post for his first goal for the club in more than 100 appearances.
City were not to be denied though; substitute Alex Notman and Roberts had shots spectacularly saved by the outstanding Miller but the deserved winner eventually came with eight minutes left.
Fleming played the ball over the top for Northern Ireland midfielder Mulryne to race onto and prod first-time past the keeper. The win ends The Canaries' run of three games without a win and lifts them up to third place in the First Division.
